Hillary Hughes recorded her third double-double of the year as fifth-ranked Washburn opened up the Ramada Inn Lady Blues Fall Classic with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 win over Dallas Baptist in Lee Arena.
Hughes had 13 kills and hit .370 and she added 11 digs. She also served a pair of aces and ended with 15.0 points for the Lady Blues (13-1).
Jessica Fey hit .533 with eight kills in 15 attacks and
Marissa Cox came off the bench to total seven kills and hit .357 in the match. She also led the team with four blocks and
Mollie Lacy added three.
Abby Wittman started at setter and had 21 assists while
Amanda Guess had 18 off the bench. The two led the Lady Blues to a .292 attack percentage while the Patriots (7-8) managed just a .101 percentage.
Washburn jumped to a 5-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back throughout the entire match.
The Lady Blues will resume action in the Ramada Inn Fall Classic with a 6:30 p.m. match Friday against Abilene Christian and then Sunday they play Tarleton State at 1 p.m. and Angelo State at 5 p.m.
