Ichabods erase 10-point deficit for road win at Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods turned a first half 10-point deficit into a 9-point win in a 64-55 win over Missouri Western in St. Joseph. The Ichabods will wrap up the two-game road trip at Truman on Wednesday.

Will McNeill scored 26 points including 17 in the second half and Bobby Chipman scored a career-high 19 points with a team-high eight rebounds in the win.

McNeill's 26-foot 3-pointer with 1:36 to go as the shot clock expired in the game put Washburn (14-6, 8-4 MIAA) up 59-54. After a turnover by the Griffons(7-12, 2-11 MIAA), McNeill added a pair of free throws with 58 seconds to put Washburn up six at 61-56. After leading by one at the break the Ichabods never trailed in the second half.

The Ichabods led at the break 32-31 after Martin Mitchell hit a jumper right before the halme buzzer however it wasn't easy for Washburn to take a lead into the break. Washburn trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half before they started the comeback at the break. The Griffons hit 4 of their first six 3-point attempts, but went 0 of 4 the remainder of the half. Washburn finished the half 12 of 30 from the field and hit 2 of their last four 3-pointers after missing their first six attempts from downtown. The Ichabods were held withouth a field goal for the first 4:11 of the game not scoring from the field until Will McNeill scored on a lay up.

McNeill was 6 of 14 from the field while going 13 of 16 from the free throw line while adding six rebound playing all 40 minutes. Chipman was 6 of 9 from the field.

Reed Meels scored 17 to lead the Griffons and Lavvonte Douglas scored 14 with nine rebounds.

The Ichabods finished 22 of 35 from the free throw line goin 16 of 24 in the second half. The Griffons were 9 of 14 from the charity stripe. The Ichabods had a 39 to 34 advantage on the glass turning 18 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points.
