TOPEKA, Kan. –
Jessica Kopp led a well-balanced offense with 10 kills as the Lady Blues swept Northwest Missouri 25-10, 25-17, 25-15 Friday night at Lee Arena.
The third-ranked Lady Blues won their 48th straight match at home and improved to 22-1 overall and 9-1 in the MIAA. They'll stay home to host Missouri Western Saturday at 2 p.m.
Kopp reached double figures for the 11th time in the last 14 matches and she hit .529 with four blocks. It was her third time hitting .500 or better this year.
Setter
Abby Wittman had assists on 24 of Washburn's 35 kills, distributing the ball well as the offense hit .297 in the match.
Marissa Cox,
Jessica Fey and
Kelsey Lewis each had six kills. Fey and Cox combined for just one error and hit better than .450 each. Lewis had just one error as well and hit .357 in the match.
Hillary Hughes led Washburn with 11 digs and
Courtney Churchman added nine.
The Lady Blues led 7-2 early in the first set and later closed it on a 7-1 run. Washburn hit .400 in the set while the Bearcats (11-12, 5-5 MIAA) hit just -.086 as a team.
They hit negative in the second set as well and gave up an early 3-1 lead on a 4-0 Washburn run. They ended up committing 13 errors in the set.
The Lady Blues jumped to an 11-2 lead in the third set and later led 21-9 after a 4-0 run, capped by a service ace from Wittman. The Bearcats later went on a 5-1 run but Washburn ended that with two straight points to clinch the match. Fey's kill ended it.
Washburn led in kills 35-27 and in digs 51-44. The Lady Blues had six blocks while NWMSU had two. Abby Graves led the Bearcats with nine kills and added 12 digs.
