Lady Blues drop 2-1 decision at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team fell 2-1 at Missouri Southern in their final road game of the regular season. Washburn returns to Yager Stadium on Sunday stepping out of MIAA play to face Western State at noon.

Two first half Missouri Southern (4-8-2, 4-4-1 MIAA) goals were the difference at the Lions' Megan Stueve scored her 10th and 11th goals of the season within five minutes of each other providing the winning margin for Missouri Southern. Her first goal at the 10:01 mark was followed by her second goal at the 14:43 mark of the game to stake the Lions to a 2-0 halftime lead.

Neither team would score until Lara Doescher scored her second goal of the season on a free kick in the 58th minute, but Washburn (4-11-0, 4-6-0 MIAA) would not score again taking the 2-1 loss.

Caysie Beetley and Daielle Curtis each had two shots for Washburn in the match.

Each team finished with eight shots in the match and three corner kicks were taken by each team.
