TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell 2-1 to Western State in non-conference action in Yager Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Blues will host Central Oklahoma next Friday at 6 p.m. returning to MIAA play in the final weekend of the regular season.
The Lady Blues took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break as
Leah Talley scored her sixth goal of the season off a rebounded shot from
Megan Buckley who received the assist on the play. The goal came in the 21st minute to wrap up the first stanza scoring.
In the second half, both of the Mountaineers' goals came within seven minutes of each other and both were scored by Sadie Stark who scored her first two goals of the season. The first was on an assist from Elyza Montano off a shot two yards out and the second on a break away from 10 yards out.
Washburn (4-12) and Western State each had 12 shots in the match and Western State was whistled for 12 fouls to seven for Washburn.
