TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues scored a goal late in the match but it was not enough as they fell 2-1 to Central Oklahoma. Washburn will celebrate senior day on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Yager Stadium when they will host Northeastern State.
The Bronchos opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Summer Grantham scored her fifth goal of the season from 13 yards out on assists from Brittni Walker and Shayna Kindsvater for the only goal of the first half. The Bronchos (13-1-3, 8-0-3 MIAA) outshot the Lady Blues 9 to 2 in the opening stanza.
In the second half, neither team could find the back of the net until Stephanie Fleig recorded her sixth goal of the season from 15 yards out into the upper corner of the net on an assist from Kate Foran in the 65th minute to go up 2-0.
Tia Stovall put the Lady Blues on the board in the 79th minute who scored off a rebounded shot by
Leah Talley who picked up the assist on the play. It was Stovall's fifth goal of the season.
Tori Fuglister had six saves in net for the Lady Blues and
Caysie Beetley had two shots in the match.
Washburn (4-13-0, 4-7-0) was outshot 22 to 5 in the match and had a 7 to 2 advantage in corner kicks.
