TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues ended their season with a 2-1 loss to Northeastern State ending the year with a 4-14 record going 4-8 in the MIAA.
Washburn, who needed a win to reach the MIAA postseason tournament, jumped on the board in the eighth minute when
Tia Stovall scored from 20 yards out into the lower left-hand corner of the net on an assist from
Leah Talley putting Washburn up 1-0 on her sixth goal of the season and the 13th of her career. It was the final game for Stovall, Talley and
Lindsey Lambert at Washburn.
Northeastern State (12-4-1, 7-4-1 MIAA) tied the score in the 27th minute when Kaili Endres scored her second goal of the year on a header off a corner kick from Renee Valcarcel tying the score at 1-1. The score would remain tied until the 47th minute when Emily Voges scored what would be the match-winner from eight yards out off a crossing pass from Jennifer Clark.
Tori Fuglister had three saves facing 12 shots.
Megan Buckley and
Jenna Cunningham each had three shots with
Caysie Beetley and Buckley each recording two shots on goal.
Washburn and the RiverHawks each had 12 shots in the match as the Lady Blues dropped their fourth-straight 2-1 decision. Northeastern was called for 15 fouls in the match compared to eight for the Lady Blues.
