TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues returned to MIAA play picking up a 2-0 win behind two goals from
Leah Talley. Washburn will face Northwest Missouri on Sunday on the road.
The Lady Blues (3-8, 3-3 MIAA) scored in the eighth minute when Talley scored her first goal and fourth of the season on a give and go from
Lindsey Lambert to
Caysie Beetley who hit a streaking Talley who scored from 8-yards out past the Griffons' Kelly Voights.
Neither team would score the remainder of the half as Washburn outshot the Griffons 10 to 1 in the first half.
In the second half, Washburn kept the pressure on outshooting Missouri Western (3-7, 1-5 MIAA) 8 to 3 and Talley scored her second goal of the match and fifth of the season on an assist from
Tia Stovall as Stovall hit a streaking Talley down the left side of the box and putting the ball into the lower right hand corner of goal for the 2-0 lead.
Washburn's
Tori Fuglister picked up her second shutout win of the season collecting three saves facing four shots.
Washburn finished with an 18 to 4 advantage in shots and shots on goal 9 to 3. Beetley finished with five shots and three on goal and Talley and
Danielle Curtis each had three shots.
