Wittman's 31 assists leads Lady Blues to sweep at Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. -- Abby Wittman had 31 assists and four kills as she helped the Washburn offense hit over .300 in a 25-19, 25-9, 25-18 win at Central Oklahoma Saturday night.

No. 3 Washburn won its 14th straight match and improved to 28-1 overall and 14-1 in the MIAA, keeping pace with first place in the conference loss column with two MIAA matches remaining. Nebraska-Kearney is 15-1 and Central Missouri is 14-1. Those two teams will play each other Friday and Washburn plays UNK Saturday. The Lady Blues will start the final week of the regular season with a non-conference match Tuesday at William Jewell and then host Lindenwood Friday at 7 p.m. The Nebraska-Kearney showdown will be Saturday at 6 p.m. in Lee Arena.

Jessica Kopp had 11 kills and hit .556 in the match with just one error in 18 tries. Hillary Hughes added nine kills and Marissa Cox had seven. She and Jessica Fey led the team with three blocks each.

Courtney Churchman led the defense with 15 digs and Fey and Wittman had seven. The Lady Blues hit .324 while the Bronchos (12-16, 7-9 MIAA) hit .146 as a team.

Between the end of the second set and the start of the third, Washburn outscored UCO 27-6. The Lady Blues ended the second set on a 15-2 run after the match was 9-7, Washburn. They then started the third set on a 12-4 run and then stretched it to 15-5. A 9-4 Bronchos run got them within five at 18-13 but Washburn scored four of the next five to get to 22 points. UCO extended the match with a 4-1 run but Hughes set down a kill to get to match point and a Broncho attack error ended the match for Washburn.

Morgon Roy led the Bronchos with nine kills and eight digs. Juliette Smith had eight kills and two of UCO's four blocks.
