TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods played their first competive match since March 31 and topped Emporia State 9-0. The Ichabods will face Northwest Missouri on Tuesday at 2 p.m. on the Washburn tennis courts. With a win over the Bearcats, the Ichabods can finish in a three-way tie for first place in the MIAA standings.

The Ichabods picked up a pair of 8-4 doubles matches to kick things off against Emporia State as Arkadiusz Kozaczuk and Maciej Winiarz defeated Andrew Davids and Matt Edwards at No. 1 doubles and Pascal Laucht and Bobby Florence won at No. 2 doubles over Mitch Kibbe and Matt Van Horn. Steven Fletcher and Dario Munoz beat Christian Lollar and Ethan Deckert 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, the Ichabods won all six matches in straight sets as Kozaczuk swept Davids at No. 1, Laucht defeated Edwards at No. 2 6-4, 6-3; Fletcher topped Deckert 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 while Florence was up 1-0 in the first set before Kibbe had to stop after an injury at No. 4 sinlges. Winiarz beat Van Horn 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Chance Joost topped Lollar 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
