TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues started out with a sweep in doubles action and continued to roll in an 8-1 win over Emporia State in the tennis version in the Turnpike Tussle. The Lady Blues will be back in action on Thursday against Truman in a match in Kansas City.

The Lady Blues started out the match with three doubles wins as the No. 1 team of Jamie Blackim and Alyssa Castillo picked up a 9-7 win over Nicole Jara and Taylor Smith. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Whitley Zitsch and Morgan Rainey remained perfect in MIAA play at 4-0 with an 8-5 win over Alex Crowe and Jennifer Gerhardt. Casyn Buchman and Sophie O'Neill won their match at No. 3 doubles topping Abby Morris and Emily Huston 8-5.

Washburn continued its winning ways in singles action as O'Neill, Zitsch, Blackim, Buchman and Castillo all won their matches. O'Neill and Blackim each won their matches in three sets.

Washburn improves to 8-7 on the season and 5-1 in the MIAA while the Hornets drop to 11-6 and 4-3 in conference play.
