Ichabods knock off Stockholm pro team in exhibition debut

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- The Washburn Ichabods played their first exhibition game on their European tour picking up a 93-85 win over Stockholm 08, a team from the Swedish first division pro league. The Ichabods will continue their trip leaving for Finland on Saturday morning.

Washburn led 46-38 at the break after the two 10-minute quarters playing international rules and would go on to lead 50-44 with 6:17 to play in the third quarter before the Stockholm squad pulled off a 13-6 run to take a one-point lead at 57-56 with 2:42 to play. Washburn responded with a layup by Joseph Smith coming on a 3-point play and a jumper by Christian Ulsaker put the Ichabods up by four. Stockholm's Arab Adbi hit a jumper to cut the margin to two. The teams traded baskets and Will McNeill hit a 3-pointer at the third quarter horn to put the Ichabods up 66-61.

The Ichabods stretched their lead back to 12 at 81-69 after a 3-pointer by Martin Mitchell, but the host scored on three-straight trips down the court to cut the lead to four with 3:32 to play in the game. A free throw by Ollie Ilunga trimmed the Ichabod lead to three at 81-78 with 2:46 to play, but the would get no closer as the Ichabods finished out the game on a 12-6 advantage to take the eight-point win.

McNeill led the Ichabods with 28 points playing 26 minutes going 11 of 17 from the field adding six rebounds. Ulsaker came off the bench to score 13 as did Mitchell while Kyle Wiggins scored 12 going 6 of 9 from the field. Bobby Chipman had 10 rebounds all on the defensive end adding six points and four assists. Ulsaker led the team with six assists.

Jocke Blom led Stockholm with 21 points on 8 of 17 shooting while Ilunga added 17 and Daniel Persson scored 16.

The Ichabods finished 37 of 72 from the field for a 51 percent average and finished 14 of 24 from the free throw line going 9 of 13 in the second half. Stockholm was 28 of 63 from the field for a 44 percent average while hitting 17 of 26 free throws.
