SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Drury goal 60 seconds into the match was the difference as the Washburn Lady Blues socccer team fell in their season opener 1-0. Washburn will face Missouri S&T on Sunday at noon in Springfield.
The Panthers (1-0) goal one minute into the match was recorded when Shelby Hatch scored on a pass by Jennifer Roberts from 5-yards out past Lady Blues goalie
Tori Fuglister. The Lady Blues were outshot 5-2 in the first half.
In the second, half, the Lady Blues (0-1) pressured the Panther defense outshooting Drury 10-1 in the second stanza, but not get any into the net as they fell 1-0.
Washburn finished with five shots on goal compared to four for the Panthers.
Caysie Beetley led the Lady Blues with five shots with one coming on goal.
Leah Talley and Megan Buckly each had two shots and one on goal.
Fuglister had three saves in net for the Lady Blues while facing six Drury shots.
