SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell in double overtime with Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon in Springfield in a 2-1 loss. Washburn will be back in action on Friday when they will face Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colo.
Washburn (0-2-0) got on the board in the 29th minute when
Caysie Beetley score from 17-yards out on an assist from
Tia Stovall for the Lady Blues first goal of the season. Washburn would go on to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Missouri S&T (1-1-0) tied the score in the 69th minute when Suzy DeWael scored from 15 yards out on an assist from Kelsey Salzman to tie the score at 1-1.
Neither team scored in the first overtime period and Kendra Wood scored the golden goal in the 108th minute for the winner for the Lady Miners off a corner kick giving Missouri S&T the go ahead goal.
Washburn outshot the Lady Miners 13 to 8 in the match and 9 to 6 in shots on goal.
Beetley led the Lady Blues with five shots with three coming on goal.
Tori Fuglister played the entire match in net for Washburn and recorded four saves facing eight shots.
Washburn was whistled for 15 fouls including three yellow cards in the match while the Lady Miners were called for eight fouls.
