TOPEKA – Washburn hit progressively better in each set in a 25-19, 25-14, 25-11 win over Pittsburg State Friday night in front of 944 fans in Lee Arena.
The fifth-ranked Lady Blues improved to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA as they won their 41st straight match at home. They'll host Central Oklahoma Saturday at 2 p.m.
Jessica Fey led Washburn with 11 kills and hit .588 with just one error in 17 attempts.
Marissa Cox hit .467 and had nine kills and
Hillary Hughes had eight.
Abby Wittman led with 29 assists and had 10 digs for a double-double.

Washburn hit .220 in the first set after getting out to a 6-0 lead. Cox and Hughes each had two kills in that early streak. They each ended with four kills in that set.
The Lady Blues upped their performance with a .316 attack in the second set and led 6-1 after letting the Gorillas score first. Fey later served a long streak as Washburn scored 10 straight points.
Washburn hit .440 in the final set while the Gorillas hit -.040 as a team. The Lady Blues had three streaks of at least five straight points and led 20-8 after a kill from
Gracie Petersen and a Gorilla serving error. Freshman
Claire White later subbed in the match and had three quick kills including the one that got Washburn to match point.
Kelsey Lewis set down the final point with her seventh kill of the match.
Washburn hit .301 as a team while the Gorillas hit .042 overall. The Gorillas led in blocks 6-1 but Washburn more than doubled the Gorillas in kills, 48-22.
Sami McHenry started at libero and had 12 kills. Petersen added 11 assists as the backup setter.
The Gorillas (8-5, 0-4 MIAA) were led by Paula Okrutna with five kills and Becca Pearson and Jordan Rehm each had 13 digs.
