Season Statistics
The fifth-ranked Lady Blues welcome MIAA newcomer Central Oklahoma to Lee Arena with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-10 win Saturday afternoon in front of 315 fans.
Washburn improved to 12-0 and 4-0 in the MIAA while Central Oklahoma dropped to 3-10 and 1-4 in the league. The Lady Blues will begin a three-match road trip Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Northwest Missouri.
Jessica Kopp led Washburn with 10 kills and she hit .304 in the match.
Marissa Cox and
Jessica Fey each had nine kills and
Hillary Hughes added five. Washburn blocked six Broncho attacks with Cox getting a hand on all six of them to set a career high for herself.
Abby Wittman set 27 assists and had seven digs. Hughes led the back row with nine digs and
Sami McHenry had eight.
The Lady Blues started quick in every set, taking 3-0 leads in the first two and leading 5-0 and then 8-1 in the third set. The Lady Blues had 18 points before UCO had six in that set and a 6-1 run closed it out to clinch the match.
The second set was played the closest as the Bronchos stayed within five until a 2-0 run put Washburn up 19-13. Three straight attack errors for UCO made it 22-14 and a kill from
Rebecca Maasen later finished the set.
The Lady Blues only hit .083 that set but the Bronchos failed to capitalize as they hit -.029 in the set.
Washburn hit .220 overall while Central Oklahoma hit .054 in the match. Both teams had six blocks and UCO edged Washburn in digs, 40-39. Washburn held a 39-25 advantage in kills.
Roy Morgan and Juliette Smith led Central Oklahoma with six kills each and Smith had five blocks.
