Lady Blues move to 8-0 with sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Washburn hit .386 as a team and three of the four primary attackers hit over .550 in a 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in the final match of the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Bash.

The seventh-ranked Lady Blues improved to 8-0. They'll play their home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Emporia State in Lee Arena. The match will also mark the first MIAA contest of the year.

Hillary Hughes, Jessica Kopp, Jessica Fey and Marissa Cox all had nine kills each. Cox hit .692 and Kopp hit .643 and each went error-free. Fey hit .583 and hit .493 during the four matches over the weekend. Hughes averaged 4.08 kills a set.

The Lady Blues started the match against the first-year Rangers by hitting .536 in the opening set. They dropped to .233 in the second set but hit .400 in the final set.The Rangers hit .169 during the match.

Hughes led Washburn with 19 digs and setter Abby Wittman had 15. She added 22 assists for a double-double and Gracie Petersen had 13 assists as a starter.

Washburn blocked five NWOSU attacks while the Rangers had just one block. Paola Turibio led the Rangers with seven kills.
