First touch

• The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will wrap up their five game homestand hosting Fort Hays State at 4 p.m. on Friday and Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at 1 p.m.

• The Ichabods split a pair of MIAA games last week falling to No. 14 Central Missouri 3-0 before topping Southwest Baptist 4-1.

• The Ichabods are looking for consecutive wins this season after going with a win-loss combination in their last five games.

Story lines

• Danielle Curtis leads the Ichabods with three goals on the season and is tied for the team lead with six points.

• Freshmen Kate Combs and Devon Schmitz have two goals each and Combs is tied for the team lead with two assists.

• Sophomore Bailey Wobig is coming off her first career two goal match after finding the back of the net twice against Southwest Baptist last time out.

• Senior Caysie Beetley has two assists and a goal this season for four points.

• Senior Brianna Ament has also added two goals this season.

• Junior Tori Fuglister has played all 828:44 in goal this season allowing 10 goals and a 1.09 goal against average recording 35 saves.

• Of the 17 goals scored by the Ichabods this season, six have been recorded by freshmen.

• Six of the seniors (Taylor Mayhew, Caysie Beetley, Rachel Hansen, Danielle Curtis, Megan Buckley, and Kelsey Ewert) have been part of the program for  four years.

• Senior Lara Doescher has been a two-year member of the team and her sister Kaitlyn Doescher will play her final season at Washburn after transferring from St. Louis.

• One senior (Brianna Ament) has been a five-year member of the team after taking a medical redshirt in 2009. 

What's in a name

• Starting this season all of the women's athletic teams will be called Ichabods.

• All women's teams prior to the 2013-14 school year can and will be referenced to as Lady Blues.

• Name change was made to have a unified athletic department and to have a graphical representation of the sports teams at Washburn.

• 'Bods is allowable on second reference

• Lady Ichabods or Lady 'Bods should never be used.

Noting  Fort Hays State

• The Tigers are 4-5-1 this season and 0-2-1 in MIAA play.

• Dani Harris and Jordan Hester lead the team with three goals each.

• Hannah Jurgens has four assists to pace the Tigers.

Series history with Fort Hays State

• The Tigers lead the all-time series 2-1-0.

• The Tigers have won the last two meetings.

• Washburn's first win was in the first meeting in Topeka 2-0 on Sept. 17, 2011.

• The last two meetings have been played in Hays.

Noting Nebraska-Kearney

• The Lopers are 4-4 this season and 1-2 in MIAA play and they are playing Rockhurst on Tuesday in Omaha.

• Becka Talcott leads the team with three goals and Montanna Hosterman has two goals with two assists.

• Katelin Mielke has a 1.25 goal against average with 19 saves.

Series history with Nebraska-Kearney

• Washburn leads the all-time series 1-0-0 after winning the only match up on Sept. 30, 2012 in Kearney 7-1.

(9/29/2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team improved to 4-5 and 1-2 in MIAA play with a 4-1 win over Southwest Baptist Sunday afternoon in Yager Stadium. 

After taking a 1-0 halftime lead on Caysie Beetley's first goal of the season on an assist from Kaitlyn Doescher as she took advantage of a misplay by the SBU goalie at the top of the box to send it into the back of the net from 10-yards out. 

Then in the second half, Washburn scored three goals started by Brianna Ament's second goal of the season on an assist from Beetley and Kate Combs when she scored on a centering pass from 8-yards out in the 60th minute of play taking a 2-0 lead. Bailey Wobig added to the Washburn lead with her first goal of the season from the left side of the field into the back of the net after Whitney Skinner and Combs connected on a pair of passes to Wobig in the 65th minute putting Washburn up 3-0.

SBU score its first and only goal of the day when Kate Jamison scored for the fifth time this season from 15-yards out after a pass from Alie Skogrand in the 75th minute.

Wobig scored her second goal of the day on an assist from Megan Buckley after Buckley's free kick assist from nearly 65 yards away was sent into the net by Wobig with just under five minutes left to play in the match.

Tori Fuglister had the win in net for Washburn collecting four saves facing six goals.

Overall, Wobig had two scores and Combs and two assists and Beetley scored both a goal while recording an assist in the win.

It was a physical match with 30 fouls being called with 16 being whistled on the Bearcats.

Washburn improved to 64-16-13 all-time when scoring first and to 49-9-4 when leading at the half.

• Beetley's goal against Southwest Baptist was her 10th of her career and moved her into the top 10 on the all-time goals scored chart at Washburn. … with two more goals she can move into a tie for ninth.

• Tori Fuglister's 175 career saves is third on the career list at Washburn.
