Strong attack leads to easy sweep at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Three Ichabods had double-figure kills and hit at least .400 in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 sweep Friday evening at Northwest Missouri.

The 11th-ranked Ichabods improved to 21-4 overall and 8-1 in the MIAA to reclaim a tie for first in the conference standings. Washburn will play at Missouri Western Saturday at 7 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.

Leanna Willer had 17 kills and hit .400 with just three errors in 35 attempts. Marissa Cox was error-free with 11 kills in 21 tries for a .524 attack percentage and Corrine Stringer hit .438 with 10 kills. Stringer pushed her career total to 988 kills and needs 12 to reach 1,000. She played her first three years at Kansas and Pittsburg State.

Abby Wittman had a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs. Kelsey Lewis led the back row with 18 digs and Sarah Vicory led above the net with five blocks.

Washburn broke a 7-7 tie in the third set with a 6-1 run to take the lead for good. A 7-1 run then gave the Ichabods a 21-12 lead as they pulled away to finish the match.

Washburn hit above .430 in each of the first two sets and ended the match hitting .330 as a team. The Bearcats were held to a .120 attack percentage after hitting .100 or less in the final two sets.

No Bearcat reached double figures in kills. Abby Graves led with nine kills and Mackie Keller had eight.
