TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods scored a late first half goal and an early second half goal while holding off a furious attack in the final 12 seconds to hold on for a 2-1 win over Fort Hays State on a windy afternoon in Yager Stadium. Washburn (5-5-0, 2-2-0 MIAA) returns to action hosting Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at 1 p.m.

While neither team scored the final 39 minutes of the match it was the final 12 seconds which proved to be the difference in the match. The Tigers had a corner kick with 17 seconds left in to play and Kylee Loneker's shot from point-blank range was stopped by Tori Fuglister in net for Washburn. After a scrum in front of the net Fuglister secured the ball as the final three seconds ticked off the clock wrapping up the Ichabods' second-straight win.

The Tigers took the early lead, in the physical game which saw 30 whistles being called, on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box when Amanda Tallbott scored in the sixth minute.

Washburn knotted the score heading into a strong southerly wind when Lara Doescher recorded her first goal of the season on a free kick when the Fort Hays State keeper caught the ball on the goal side of the line in the 41st minute as the teams were tied 1-1 going into the half.

Brianna Ament recorded what would be the game-winner in the 52nd minute off a free kick from Megan Buckley who flicked it to Caysie Beetley who found Ament for what would be the match winner.

Fuglister had eight saves in the match while facing 13 shots. Washburn was outshot nine to seven in shots on goal overall. Lara Doescher led Washburn with three shots on goal.
