SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The No. 38 Washburn Ichabods picked up a 5-4 victory over the No. 39-ranked Southwest Baptist Bearcats in the regular season tennis finale. The MIAA Tournament will start on Friday in Springfield, Mo. and the Ichabods will be the No. 2 seed.

Because of rain in the area, the men's match was moved from Bolivar to Springfield and indoors where the match started with singles play first instead of doubles play. The Ichabods led 4-2 after the six singles matches as Pascal Laucht defeated Omar El Kheshen 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Steven Fletcher topped Daniel Cardona 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 4. Bobby Florence topped Alex Belote in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and then Chance Joost won his match at No. 6 singles over Guido Margiotta 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

With the rain moving out of the area, the team moved outdoors for the three doubles matches. Washburn lost at No. 1 doubles and at No. 2 doubles as the Bearcats tied the score at 4-4. The doubles team at No. 3 of Joost and Florence wrapped up the match with an 8-1 win securing the 5-4 win for the Ichabods.
