SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  The Washburn Lady Blues were topped 5-0 by the No. 37-ranked Northeastern State RiverHawks in the first round of the MIAA Tennis Tournament in Springfield, Mo., at the Cooper Tennis Center. Washburn will face Emporia State in a consolation match on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Lady Blues' No. 1 doubles team of Jodie Blackim and Kirsten Holle pushed Kristina Savchenkov and Ivana Belejova into a tiebreaker, but fell 9-8 after losing the tiebreaker 7-5. The No. 2 team of Sophie O'Neill and Casyn Buchman fell to Houda Bellamine and Jeanne 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, Gwen Shepler and Nzingha Banks were topped 8-1 by Barbora Jirickova and Martina Bruzikova.

The RiverHawks went on to a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles as Belejova topped O'Neill 6-1, 6-0 and Kirsten Holle lost to  Bellamine 6-0, 6-1.
