Washburn starts busy week with 3 matches on Wednesday

First touch
• The Washburn Ichabod soccer team returns to action with three matches this week starting with Rockhurst on Wednesday in Kansas City.
• Washburn will then return home for a pair of matches against Augustana on Sept. 13 in Yager Stadium at 6 p.m. and then they will face Colorado Christian at noon on Sept. 15.
• Washburn was 1-1 in the first week of action falling to Northern State in its opener 1-0.
• The Ichabods responded with a 5-0 win over Wayne State on Sept. 8.

Story lines
• Freshman Olivia Stovall is the Ichabods' leading point scorer with four after two games after recording a goal and two assists in the win over Wayne State.
• Junior Tori Fuglister recorded her fourth career shutout in the win over Wayne State in the 5-0 win.
• Four Ichabods scored their first collegiate goal against Wayne State: Olivia Stovall, Kate Combs, Devon Schmitz and Kelly Schunk. 
• Sophomore Whitney Skinner scored her first goal of the season at Wayne State rounding out the scoring.
• Six of the seniors (Taylor Mayhew, Caysie Beetley, Rachel Hansen, Danielle Curtis, Megan Buckley, and Kelsey Ewert) have been part of the program for  four years.
• Senior Lara Doescher has been a two-year member of the team and her sister Kaitlyn Doescher will play her final season at Washburn after transferring from St. Louis.
• One senior (Brianna Ament) has been a five-year member of the team after taking a medical redshirt in 2009. 

What's in a name
• Starting this season all of the women's athletic teams will be called Ichabods.
• All women's teams prior to the 2013-14 school year can and will be referenced to as Lady Blues.
• Name change was made to have a unified athletic department and to have a graphical representation of the sports teams at Washburn.
• 'Bods is allowable on second reference
• Lady Ichabods or Lady 'Bods should never be used.

Scouting Rockhurst
• The Hawks were 14-4-3 last season and finished 10-2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
• They return 10 starters and 19 letterwinners from their 2012 team.
• The game against the Ichabods will be their first of the season.    

Series history with Rockhurst
• Rockhurst leads the all-time series with Washburn 4-2-1 after recording a 5-0 win last season.
• Washburn has lost the last two in the series after winning the previous two.
• Washburn has not won in Kansas City since a 2-1 overtime victory on Oct. 1, 2008.

Scouting Augustana
• Augustana is 1-1 this season after falling in overtime to Northeastern State 2-1 and then beating Missouri Southern 2-1 last week.
• Maren Werth has two of the three goals for the Vikings this season.
• Ashley Limmer has a 1.46 GAA for Augustana.

Series history with Augustana
• Washburn leads the all-time series 1-0-0.
• The two teams have not played since a 2-1 Washburn win over the Vikings in Joplin, Mo. on Sept. 11, 2005.

Scouting Colorado Christian
• Colorado Christian is 2-0 this season and has outscored its opponents 16-0.
• CCU will take on Central Christian College on Friday before facing Washburn on Sunday.

Series history with Colorado Christian
• The Cougars lead the series 1-0-0 after winning last season's match up 3-2 in overtime in Lakewood, Calif.

Last time out for Washburn
(9/8/2013) WAYNE, Neb. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team picked up their first win of the season in a 5-0 shutout win against Wayne State on Sunday afternoon. 
Washburn (1-1) got on the board in the 10th minute when Whitney Skinner scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Olivia Stovall staking the Ichabods to the early lead over the Wildcats (0-2).
Both teams remained scoreless until the 33rd minute when Stovall connected on her first collegiate goal powering her shot in from 25 yards out from the center of the field. 
After taking the 2-0 lead into the break, Devon Schmitz recorded her first collegiate goal on an assist from Stovall from the top of the box past the Wildcat goalie in the 48th minute stretching the lead to 3-0.
Washburn wasted little time adding its fourth goal of the day as Kate Combs scored an assisted 52 seconds later for her first goal of the season.
Kelly Schunk, who became the fourth freshman to score their first goal of their career during the match, received a pass from Bailey Wobig in the 73rd minute to wrap up the scoring putting Washburn up 5-0.
Tori Fuglister picked up her third career shutout in the match recording seven saves facing 13 shots.
Washburn outshot the Wildcats 25 to 13 in the match including a 16 to 7 advantage in the first half.

Washburn Soccer history
• Washburn is 82-89-29 (.492) all-time in its 11th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 58-59-20 (.512). 
• In home matches, the Ichabods are 40-31-13 (.554).
• On the road, the Ichabods are 35-51-12 (.416).
• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-7-4 (.500). 

Record watch
• Caysie Beetley needs four points to move into the top 10 all-time at Washburn on the career point chart.
• Beetley's next goal would be her 10th of her Ichabod career and move her into a tie for 10th all-time at Washburn.

Up next
Washburn will open MIAA play at Emporia State on Sept. 20 before returning home to take on Newman on Sept. 22 back in Yager Stadium at 2 p.m.
