EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team fell 2-0 to Emporia State in the first of two meetings this season on Friday night in Emporia. Washburn returns to non-conference action against Newman on Sunday at Yager Stadium at 2 p.m.

Washburn (2-4, 0-1 MIAA) trailed 1-0 at the half after the Hornets added a goal in the 24th minute

ESU added another goal in the 59th minute going up 2-0 leading to the shutout win.

Washburn outshot the Hornets 12-8, but were down 7-1 in corner kick opportunities. Lara Doescher had three shots and Whitney Skinner had two to lead the Washburn attack. Tori Fuglister had three saves in net.
 
The two teams will play again in a non-conference match up in Yager Stadium on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
