FORT SMITH, Ark. -- No. 11 Washburn ran away late with all three sets in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 sweep over Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday night to close action in the MaryBeth Suddath Invitational.
The Ichabods improved to 8-3 and will play their home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Northwest Missouri State at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
Marissa Cox led Washburn with 17 kills and she hit .382 in the match.
Sarah Vicory hit .500 with 1 kills and an error in 22 attempts.
Leanna Willer added nine kills and 13 digs.
Courtney Churchman led four Ichabods in double-figure digs as she had 18.
Kelsey Lewis had 16 and
Abby Wittman had 14. Wittman set 41 assists for another double-double.
The Lions led 18-17 in the first set after a 7-1 run but Washburn closed the set on an 8-2 run to win it. The Ichabods came back again in the second set by ending it on a 13-5 run. Washburn then scored 10 of the last 12 points in the third set to run away with that one.
The Ichabods hit .205 as a team while the Lions hit .140 in the match. UAFS led in blocks 5-3.
