Ichabod soccer team returns to action Friday with #13 Jennies

First touch
• The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will continue their home stand with two games this weekend starting on Friday against No. 14-ranked Central Missouri and then take on Southwest Baptist on Sunday in Yager Stadium.
• The Ichabods are coming off a 4-0 win over Newman last time out in non-conference action.
• Washburn fell 2-0 to Emporia State in its MIAA opener on Friday of last week.

Story lines
• Danielle Curtis leads the Ichabods with three goals on the season and she is coming off her first two-goal match as she converted two free kicks against Newman in Washburn's 4-0 victory last time out.
• Freshmen Devon Schmitz and Kate Combs along with sophomore Whitney Skinner have each scored two goals this season.
• Freshman Olivia Stovall has two of the Ichabods' eight assists on the season.
• Junior Tori Fuglister recorded her fourth  career shutout and her third of the season in the 4-0 win over Newman last time out.
• Of the 13 goals scored by the Ichabods this season, six have been recorded by freshmen.
• Six of the seniors (Taylor Mayhew, Caysie Beetley, Rachel Hansen, Danielle Curtis, Megan Buckley, and Kelsey Ewert) have been part of the program for  four years.
• Senior Lara Doescher has been a two-year member of the team and her sister Kaitlyn Doescher will play her final season at Washburn after transferring from St. Louis.
• One senior (Brianna Ament) has been a five-year member of the team after taking a medical redshirt in 2009. 

What's in a name
• Starting this season all of the women's athletic teams will be called Ichabods.
• All women's teams prior to the 2013-14 school year can and will be referenced to as Lady Blues.
• Name change was made to have a unified athletic department and to have a graphical representation of the sports teams at Washburn.
• 'Bods is allowable on second reference
• Lady Ichabods or Lady 'Bods should never be used.

Noting Central Missouri
• The Jennies are ranked No. 14 in the NSCAA top 25 and enter weekend play with a 4-1-1 overall record and they are 2-0-0 in MIAA play.
• UCM has won its last four matches including a 5-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney last time out on Sept. 21.
• Reigning MIAA offensive player of the week Hannah Moran leads the team with six goals, which is tied for the MIAA lead.
• Morgan Hartzler has a 0.88 goal against average with 17 saves starting all six of their matches with two shutouts and a combined shutout.

Series history with Central Missouri
• The Mules lead the all-time series 13-5-1 and have outscored Washburn 31 to 13.
• The Ichabods are 3-5-1 against the Mules in Topeka.
• The Mules have won the last five in the series by a combined score of 15-1.
• Washburn's last win came on Sept. 24, 2009 in a 1-0 win in Topeka.
• Overall the Jennies have won nine of the last 11 and eight of the last nine.

Noting  Southwest Baptist
• The Bearcats are 5-1-1 this season and 2-0-0 in MIAA play. 
• After losing their first match of the season to St. Cloud State 1-0, the Bearcats have gone 5-0-1.
• The Bearcats topped William Jewell 4-3 on Sept. 24 and will face Emporia State on Friday before facing the Ichabods on Sunday.
• Kate Jamison and her twin sister Karla lead the team with three goals each.
• Paige Hemphill has a 1.11 goal against average with 31 saves allowing eight goals in 650 minutes played in net.

Series history with Southwest Baptist
• The Bearcats lead the series 7-4-7.
• There have been seven matches between Washburn and SBU which have gone into double overtime.
• All seven of those have ended in ties with no winners after the two extra sessions.
• Washburn's last win over the Bearcats was on Sept. 26, 2009 in Topeka in a 4-3 win.
• Since then the Ichabods are 0-2-3 against SBU.

Last time out for Washburn
(9/22/2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team picked up a 4-0 non-conference win over Newman on Sunday afternoon in Yager Stadium. 
Danielle Curtis opened the scoring for the Ichabods in the sixth minute with a free kick from 13 yards out into the left side of the goal. It was her second goal of the season.
Whitney Skinner stretched the Ichabod lead to 2-0 on a goal from 10-yards out into the left corner of the goal as Washburn led at the break.
Washburn outshot the Jets 12-1 in the first half and had four corner kicks to Newman's one.
In the 52nd minute, Taylor Mayhew scored her first career goal from 5-yards out on an assist from Caysie Beetley putting Washburn up 3-0.
Curtis recorded her first two-goal match with another free kick goal in the 56th minute from 21 yards out into the near side of the goal.
Tori Fuglister recorded her fifth career shutout and her third of the season facing four shots from Newman.
Beetley and Curtis had four shots and two on goal to lead Washburn. Bailey Wobig added three shots as Washburn outshot the Jets 23 to 4 in the match.

• Washburn is 84-92-29 (.492) all-time in its 11th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 58-60-20 (.512). 
• In home matches, the Ichabods are 42-32-13 (.554).
• On the road, the Ichabods are 35-53-12 (.416).
• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-7-4 (.500). 

Record watch
• Caysie Beetley needs three points to move into the top 10 all-time at Washburn on the career point chart.
• Beetley's next goal would be her 10th of her Ichabod career and move her into a tie for 10th all-time at Washburn.

Quick kicks
• Washburn has never faced the No. 14-ranked team in the national rankings.
• Overall Washburn is 8-19-4 against teams ranked in the top 25 poll.
• Washburn's last win over a ranked team came on Oct. 23, 2008 when they beat a No. 23-ranked Nebraska-Omaha squad 2-1 in Omaha.

Up next
The Ichabods will continue their homestand hosting Fort Hays State at 4 p.m. on Oct. 4 and then taking on Nebraska-Kearney at 1 p.m. on Oct. 6 in Yager Stadium.
