PITTSBURG, Kan. --
Marissa Cox was one of four Ichabods in double figure kills and also one of four in double figure digs in a 3-1 win (30-28, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17) Friday night at Pittsburg State.
The 11th-ranked Ichabods improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA and will continue action Saturday at 2 p.m. at Central Oklahoma.
Marissa Cox recorded her first career double-double with 17 kills and a career-high 10 digs.
Sarah Vicory added 13 kills,
Leanna Willer had 12 and Corrine Stringer had 11.
Both teams struggled on the attack as the Gorillas (4-8, 1-3 MIAA) hit just .075 and Washburn had a .175 percentage. The Ichabods also struggled on the serve with nine errors while PSU had two. Washburn did lead in kills, 63-41 to hold an edge.
The Ichabods faced set point three times in the opening set but answered every one and then scored the final three points to win 30-28. Stringer's kill tied the set at 28-28 and then two straight PSU errors gave Washburn the win.
Overall, there were 20 ties and 13 lead changes in the first set.
The Ichabods won easy in the second set but were outscored 8-4 down the stretch in the third after a 17-17 tie. Washburn erased a 4-0 PSU start to the fourth set and led the rest of the way after breaking a 7-7 tie with a 5-0 run to go up 13-7.
Kelsey Lewis led the Washburn defense with 25 digs while
Courtney Churchman had 14. Willer joined Cox with a double-double as she had 13 digs. Vicory's .242 attack percentage led all Ichabod hitters.
Abby Wittman finished with 59 assists, three away from a career high.
