WAYNE, Neb. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team picked up their first win of the season in a 5-0 shutout win against Wayne State on Sunday afternoon. The Ichabods will return to action on Wednesday at Rockhurst.
Washburn (1-1) got on the board in the 10th minute when
Whitney Skinner scored her first goal of the season on an assist from
Olivia Stovall staking the Ichabods to the early lead over the Wildcats (0-2).
Both teams remained scoreless until the 33rd minute when Stovall conneted on her first collegiate goal powering her shot in from 25 yards out from the center of the field.Â
After taking the 2-0 lead into the break,
Devon Schmitz recorded her first collegiate goal on an assist from Stovall from the top of the box past the Wildcat goalie in the 48th minute stretching the lead to 3-0.
Washburn wasted little time adding its fourth goal of the day as
Kate Combs scored un assisted 52 seconds later for her first goal of the season.
Kelly Schunk, who became the fourth freshman to score their first goal of their career during the match, received a pass from
Bailey Wobig in the 73rd minute to wrap up the scoring putting Washburn up 5-0.
Tori Fuglister picked up her third career shutout in the match recording seven saves facing 13 shots.
Washburn outshot the Wildcats 25 to 13 in the match including a 16 to 7 advantage in the first half.
Following their match with Rockhurst on Wednesday, Washburn will then host Augustana on Friday in Yager Stadium at 6 p.m. and then take on Colorado Christian at noon on Sunday, Sept. 15.
