The Washburn Ichabod women's tennis team will open the season on Feb. 1-2 in Springfield, Mo., when they will face No. 24 Drury and East Central (Okla.).

Drop shots . . . 

• The Ichabods are looking to make the NCAA Regional tournament for first time since the 2010 season and their 15th time overall.

• Washburn is ranked No. 10 in the ITA Central Regional rankings released on Nov. 4, 2013.

• In the three tournaments in the fall, the Ichabod netters were 19-24 overall in singles play while going 12-11 in doubles action.

• Casyn Buchman had a team-high eight wins in singles play winning the Washburn Invitational. Buchman was also 10-1 in doubles play with Jodie Blackim. The duo is ranked No. 5 in the ITA Central Regional rankings.

• Buchman is ranked at the No. 10 singles player in the central region by the ITA and she will join the tennis team at the end of the women's basketball team season.

• Maria Moral Carretero was 4-2 in singles play in her first action as an Ichabod.

The Ichabods will not return to the court for nearly a month when they will face Johnson County on March 1 in an exhibition match at 1 p.m. Washburn will then open MIAA play on March 7 when they will host Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma on March 8.
