TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabods won an easy first set then rebounded from a loss in the second set to beat Northwest Missouri 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18) Friday night at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
Washburn improved to 18-2 overall and will remain in a tie for first in the MIAA at 10-2. The Ichabods will return to Lee Arena Saturday at 6 p.m. to host Missouri Western.
Sarah Vicory hit .650 with 13 kills and no errors in 20 attempts and
Marissa Cox had 17 kills with a .556 attack percentage. Washburn hit .331 overall after a .517 percentage in the first set and .483 attack in the third set.
Alyssa Carney led the defense with 18 digs and
Natalie Bates had 33 assists.
Leanna Willer added 10 digs and five kills while
Taylor Selk had seven kills as she made her first career start.
Liz Powell had 12 assists off the bench.
Washburn trailed 9-7 in the first set before scoring 12 of the next 14 points to go up 19-11. Selk later set down two straight points to get the Bods to set point.
The Bearcats broke a 23-23 tie in the second set wit two straight points to win the set and tie the match. Washburn then took a 5-1 lead early in the third set and later led 14-6 and 18-11 before scoring the final six points of the set to go up 2-1 in the match.
A 7-2 run midway through the fourth set gave Washburn a 20-13 lead and the Bods later got to match point on a kill and ace from Cox. A Bearcat attack error clinched the match for Washburn.
Three different Bearcats hit in double figures with Miranda Foster leading Northwest (9-11, 6-6 MIAA) with 15 kills. She added 15 digs for a double-double.
