ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Ichabods dropped a close first set Saturday and didn't recover in a 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 loss at Missouri Western. Fifth-ranked Washburn dropped its first match of the year and fell to 10-1 and 2-1 in the MIAA.

The Ichabods will finish a three-match road trip Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Fort Hays State.

Sarah Vicory tied a career high with 16 kills and set a new high with a .519 attack percentage. She had two errors in 27 swings. She was the only player with at least 10 kills as Marissa Cox had seven and Leanna Willer had five.

McKenzie Hartzog led the defense with 10 digs and Natalie Bates led with 17 assists. Cox and Vicory led the team with three blocks each.

Washburn hit .193 as a team after a .047 attack in the third set. The Ichabods hit .375 in the opening set but the Griffons (8-3, 2-1 MIAA) hit .500 that set. They hit .367 the next set while Washburn dropped to a .206 attack.

Jessie Thorup came off the bench to lead Missouri Western with 16 kills and Kelsey Olion had nine.
