Soccer team to host Lions and Jennies this weekend

Weekly Notes

 Opening Notes
• The Washburn Ichabods return home on Friday night to face Lindenwood with a 5 p.m. start inside Yager Stadium.
•    On Sunday, Washburn will play host to No. 17-ranked Central Missouri.
•    The Ichabods are 0-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 in MIAA play.
•    Last week the Ichabods fell 2-1 at Newman, 1-0 at Nebraska-Kearney and tied Emporia State 1-1 in double overtime.
•     The Ichabods were picked fifth in the MIAA preseason coaches poll.

 'Bod's and Ends
•     The Ichabods are looking for their first win of the season.
•    Washburn has scored only three goals in 560 minutes of action this season and have gone 142 minutes without a goal.
•     The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will have 13 freshmen on the roster this season.
•     Washburn was 2-8 in matches the last two seasons in matches which were decided by one goal going 0-4 this season.
•    Devon Schmitz recorded her first goal of the season and her third of her career against Emporia State on Friday.
•    Audra Keehn scored her first collegiate goal against Northern State off an assist from Jenna Cunninghman last time out against the Wolves.
•    Sara Specht leads the team with two assists.
•    Washburn has been outshot by its opponents 81 to 49 this season including an 33 to 19 disadvantage in the first half of matches this season.
•     Washburn was outshot 9 to 0 in the two overtimes at Emporia State.
•     Washburn and its opponents through six matches have been outshot in corner kicks 27 to 18.
•     The Ichabods will have one of their largest senior classes in the program's history as nine Washburn student-athletes will play their final season in the blue and white.
•     Four of the seniors (Tori Fuglister, Valerie Harms, Jenna Cunningham and Whitney Skinner) have been part of the program for  four years.
•     With eight sophomores and three redshirt freshmen the Ichabods will have 24 of their 30 players listed as underclassmen.
•     Washburn's roster has 30 players on it for the 2014 season. It is the largest roster the Ichabods have had in the program's history.
•    Kaitlin Minnich saw her first action in goal against Emporia State and shut the Hornets out for the final 65 minutes of the match with four saves picking up the tie in net.

 Noting Lindenwood
•    Lindenwood is 2-3-1 this season and 1-1-0 in MIAA play.
•    The Lions won their last match out 1-0 over Missouri Western.
•    Washburn leads the all-time series 2-0-0 picking up a pair of one goal victories winning 3-2 on Oct. 14, 2012 and 2-1 on Oct. 20, 2013. 

 Last meeting with Lindenwood
    (Oct. 20, 2013) ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Lara Doescher connected on a penalty kick with 18 seconds left to spot Washburn to a 2-1 win at Lindenwood handing the Lady Lions their first MIAA loss of the season. 
    Washburn was awarded the penalty kick opportunity with 18 seconds remaining in the match when Caysie Beetley was taken down inside the box. Lara Doescher then stepped up and sent the ball into the right hand side of the net for the winning goal putting Washburn up 2-1. It was Doescher's third goal of the season.
    Washburn's Beetley put the Ichabods up 1-0 with her third goal of the season breaking a scoreless halftime tie off an assist from Cadence Bourne in the 46th minute. The Lions would tie the score in the 62nd minute when Kat Roe scored her sixth goal of the season on an assist from Bailey Cody.
    Tori Fuglister picked up the win in net recording seven saves while facing 21 shots in the win.
    Both teams had 21 shots in the match with Washburn putting 10 on goal compared to eight for Lindenwood.

 Noting Central Missouri
•    Central Missouri is ranked No. 17 in the latest NSCAA rankings and enter a Friday night match with Emporia State with a 5-0-1 record going 2-0-0 in MIAA play.
•    The Jennies have outscored their opponents 13 to 2 in six matches.
•    Central Missouri leads the all-time series with the Ichabods 14-5-1 and have won the last six meetings.
•    Washburn's last win was a 1-0 win in Topeka on Sept. 24, 2009.
•    The Jennies have been nationally ranked in five of the last six meetings with the Ichabods.
•     During the six-match winning streak by the Jennies, the Ichabods have been outscored 18-1. 

 Last meeting with Central Missouri
    (Sept. 27, 2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 14-ranked Central Missouri on Friday night at Yager Stadium.
    The Jennies jumped on the board in the 11th minute when Emily Eldridge scored her second goal of the season on a free kick from 45-yards out as Central Missouri took a 1-0 lead into the half.
    Central added goals in the 56th and 58 minutes to push the score to 3-0. Hannah Pyle scored on an assist from Abby Rhodes off a throw in and Nicole Pone scored her first goal of the season unassisted from 10-yards out.
    Washburn was outshot 14 to 9 in the match as they had seven shots on goal. Tori Fuglister had four saves in net for Washburn.
    Caysie Beetley had four shots for Washburn and Bailey Wobig recorded the only shot on goal for the Ichabods.

• Washburn is 90-102-32 (.484) all-time in its 12th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 58-60-21 (.512). 
• In home matches, the Ichabods are 46-36-15 (.557).
• On the road, the Ichabods are 37-58-13 (.416).
• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-8-4 (.474). 

 Washburn record watch
• Senior goalkeeper Tori Fuglister needs 23 saves to move into second place all-time at Washburn and 63 saves to move into first all-time. She has 256 career saves entering the season.
• Fuglister has played in 54 matches at Washburn and she needs nine matches played to move into first on the all-time goalie games played chart.

 Up next
The Ichabods will begin their longest road trip of the season as they will take on Central Oklahoma on Oct. 3 and Northeastern State on Oct. 5 followed by matches at Missouri Western on Oct. 10 and Northwest Missouri on Oct. 12. Washburn will not return home until Oct. 17 when they will face Missouri Southern starting a five-match homestand.
