TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team found itself down 2-1 after the first 11 minutes of the match with No. 17 Central MIssouri and they could not recover falling 5-1 to the Jennies. Washburn will return to action on Oct. 3 at Central Oklahoma.
The Jennies' Alex Yockey score two goals in the first 5:42 of the match en route to the hatrick after adding a third goal of the day in the 23rd minute becoming the second opponent in the Ichabod program history to record a hatrick against Washburn scoring her third, fourth and fifth goals of the season against the Ichabods.
Washburn got on the board in the 11th minute cutting the lead to 2-1 when
Emily Stauffer scored her second goal of the season off a rebound off the post from a shot and pass from
Whitney Skinner and
Cadence Bourne.
The Jennies added to their lead in the 16th minute when Emily Francehett scored into the right corner of the net and her goal was followed by Tockey's unassisted goal in the 23rd minute.
Julie Ireland scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Nicole Pond before the halftime horn wrapping up the scoring as both teams were scoreless in the second half.
The Ichabods were outshot by the Jennies 18 to 5 in the match including an 8 to 1 advantage in the second half.
Tori Fuglister recorded seven saves in net for the Ichabods while four different Ichabods had shots on goal.
The Jennies broke the Ichabod opponent record for most goals scored in a half snapping the mark of four goals Truman scored against Washburn on Sept. 14, 2003 in the first year of the Ichabod program.
