WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Marissa Cox had 12 kills and hit .321 as Washburn swept Arkansas State 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 Friday night to open the season 2-0. The Ichabods will wrap up their opening weekend at the Midwestern State Hamtpon Inn-vitational Saturday with two matches. They play Fort Lewis at 9 a.m. and Northwestern Oklahoma at 2 p.m.

Cox added seven digs and a team-high five blocks.
Mattie-Ann Swenson had five kills and four blocks and
Leanna Willer had seven kills and a team-high 16 digs. Libero
Alyssa Carney had 15 digs.
Natalie Bates led Washburn with 17 assists and
Liz Powell had 16.

The Ichabods hit .183 as a team and held Arkansas Tech to a .053 attack percentage.

The Golden Suns jumped to a 6-2 lead in the second set but Washburn then scored 12 of the next 14 points to go up 14-8. Five straight ATU attack errors helped the Ichabods during that run.

Arkansas Tech didn't hit above .100 in either set and Washburn never trailed beyond the opening points.
