PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped after being held to a season-low 40-points in a 82-40 loss to Pittsburg State. Washburn returns to the court on Thursday at Central Oklahoma.
The Ichabods never led in the game and after tying the score at 4-4, the Gorillas used a 21-9 run over the next 10:59 to jump out to a 25-13 lead as Pitt State would go on to lead by 15 at the break with a 38-13 lead. Washburn was held to 7 of 19 shooting in the first half while the Gorillas were 15 of 27 hitting 4 of 5 3-point attempts.
On the Ichabod side, the 40 points were the fewest scored by a Washburn team since moving to the NCAA Division II ranks since scoring 45 against Truman on Jan. 13, 2007 in a 60-45 loss. The 42-point losing margin was the largest by an Ichabod team during the same time frame since a 37-point loss at Missouri Southern in  a 110-73 loss to the lions on Dec. 7, 2013.
Kyle Wiggins led the Ichabods with 11 points as he was the only Washburn player to reach double figures.
Alex North had a team-high four rebounds.
The Gorillas had four in double figures led by Josiah Gustafson's 23 points.
Washburn, who was outscored 44 to 17 in the second half finished the game 7 14 of 42 from the field and 2 of 14 from 3-point range going 0 of 9 from the 3-point area in the second half. The Gorillas were 32 of 55 overall for a 58 percent clip while outrebounding the Ichabods 40 to 19.
