Bods give up final six points in loss to Central Missouri

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods led by three at the two-minute mark Monday but gave up the final six points in a 64-61 loss to Central Missouri at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
 
No. 8 Washburn fell to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA. The Ichabods will start a four-game road trip Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Northwest Missouri. The Jennies won their fourth straight and improved to 10-3 and 4-1 in the MIAA.
 
Washburn trailed by as much as 11 in the second half but Honor Duvall tied the game with a layup at 3:42. A free throw shot by Jayna Smith gave Washburn the lead and then two free throws from Casyn Buchman put the Bods up 61-58 with 2:21 to play.
 
The Jennies scored a minute later to pull within a point and then went ahead 30 seconds later on a layup. Washburn turned the ball over on its next possession then the Jennies made two free throws with 17 seconds left to go up by three. The Bods failed to get a good look at a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
 
Duvall shot 8 of 13 from the field for 19 points to lead the team. Casyn Buchman was 3 of 13 from the field with 11 points and four other players each scored seven.
 
UCM led 39-28 at halftime after Washburn shot 36 percent in the first half and the Jennies shot 57 percent. The Ichabods outscored Central Missouri, 33-25 in the second half but that wasn't enough.
 
The Ichabods ended the game shooting 40 percent from the field while UCM shot 46 percent. The Bods made 20 of 25 free throws while the Jennies made 8 of 9. Washburn won the rebound battle 33-28 and was even with UCM at 12 turnovers each.
 
Duvall led Washburn with eight rebounds and Buchman led with five assists. Janelle Travis led Washburn off the bench with seven points.
 
Jasmine Thompson led four different double-figure scorers for the Jennies with 14 points. She was 6 of 11 from the field. Revonnia Howard had 10 points and nine rebounds.
