Ichabod soccer team starts roadtrip with Lions and Bearcats on Thursday

 Opening Notes
•     The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will look to build on its two-game undefeated streak as they open a five-game roadtrip starting Thursday at Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
•    Washburn will then take on Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Bolivar, Mo.
•    Washburn is coming off an undefeated weekend after topping Missouri Western 1-0 on Oct. 9 before tying Northwest Missouri 1-1 in double overtime.
•    Washburn will return home on Nov. 1 for senior day as they will take on Fort Hays State in Yager Stadium wrapping up the regular season.
•    The top eight teams in the final MIAA standings advance to the conference tournament.

 'Bod's and Ends
•    The Ichabods have scored nine goals in 12 matches this season after scoring only eight goals in 18 matches last season.
•    The Ichabods are being outshot 148 to 90 this season and 10 to 5 in overtime.
•    Kaitlin Minnich has recorded 52 saves and a .788 save percentage in her first 12 collegiate starts playing all 1,158 minutes this season in net for the Ichabods.
•    Paige Swanson, Emily Stauffer and Michelle Keleher each have two goals to lead the Ichabods this season. Cadence Bourne, Bailey Wobig and Ellie Karloff and have each scored one goal for the Ichabods this season.
•    Sara Specht leads the Ichabods with three assists while Bourne has two.
•    Paige Swanson leads the team with five points this season (2 goals, 1 assist).
•    Sara Specht has seven career assists which ranks for 13th on the all-time Ichabod chart.

 Noting Missouri Southern
•    The Lions are 2-10-0 this season and 0-6-0 in the MIAA.
•    The Lions have lost their last eight matches and have been outscored 20 to 5 during the streak.
•    Hannah Bomar has three goals and two assists to lead the Lions attack tallying eight points.
•    Shawnee Phillips has played all 1,097 minutes in net allowing 26 goals with a 2.13 goal against average recording 73 saves.

 Series history with Missouri Southern
•    The Ichabods trail in the all-time series 8-7-6 and have lost three of the last four meetings.
•    Washburn has outscored the Lions 21-19 in the 21 meetings.
•    Washburn is 2-4-3 in matches played in Joplin.
•    The six ties are the second-most for the Ichabods against any opponent (SBU - 7).

 Last meeting with Missouri Southern
(Oct. 17, 2014) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team fell 1-0 in overtime to Missouri Southern on Friday night in Yager Stadium. 
Neither team could get much going offensively in the match as the teams combined for 19 shots overall. The Lions outshot the Ichabods 11 to 8 in 91-plus minutes. No one scored until Kelsey Haist scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Michaela Altvater after she received the centering pass and put it into the lower left hand corner of the net 101 seconds into overtime.
Sara Specht and Morgan El-Attrache each had two shots to lead Washburn. Kelly Schunk and Specht each had shots on goal for the Ichabods. Tori Fuglister had four saves in net for Washburn. 

 Noting Southwest Baptist
•    The Bearcats are 7-5-0 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA.
•    SBU has won seven of its last nine matches with losses coming at Nebraska-Kearney and to No. 5 Central Missouri last time out in a 5-1 loss.
•    Karla Jamison has 12 goals to lead the Bearcats.
•    Cheyenne Forshey has allowed 15 goals with 38 saves recording a 1.58 goal against average while posting two shutouts.

 Series history with Southwest Baptist
•    The Bearcats lead the all-time series 8-5-7 after winning 4-1 last season in Topeka.
•    The seven ties are the most for any Ichabod opponent in an all-time series.
•    Washburn is 2-4-3 in matches played in Bolivar, Mo., and have been outscored 39 to 27 in the 20 matches played in the series.

 Last meeting with Southwest Baptist
(Oct. 19,  2014) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team trailed 2-1 at the break but could not get any closer as two second half Bearcat goals were too much to overcome in a 4-1 loss to Southwest Baptist. 
The Bearcats scored the opening goal of the match in the 10th minute when Kate Jamison scored on a breakaway taking the 1-0 lead. The Ichabods came back to tie the score in the 34th minute when Sophia Sabala scored her first career goal off an assist from Sara Specht from 3-yards out knotting the score at 1-1.
Southwest Baptist regained the lead 84 seconds later when Elin Hammar scored off an assist by Karla Jamison as the Bearcats took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
SBU added two goals in the second half as they outshot the Ichabods 16 to 1 in the second half going with the win leading to the 4-1 win.
The Bearcats outshot the Ichabods 33 to 7 in the match. The 33 shots were the third-most by an Ichabod opponent in program history.
Southwest Baptist was whistled for 18 fouls in the match as Washburn was called for eight.
Sabala led the Ichabods with three shots and three shots on goal as Washburn recorded six shots on goal overall with seven shots in the match. Southwest Baptist attempted 33 shots with 16 on goal. 
Washburn goalkeeper Tori Fuglister had 12 saves in the match.

 About head coach Chris Jones
•    Chris Jones is 3-6-3 in his first season at Washburn and is only the second coach in the program's history since 2003.
•    Jones spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Fort Hays State where the Tigers went 20-13-5 coaching 11 all-MIAA picks.
•    Prior to joining the Tigers, he was president and coach of the University of Oklahoma's men's club team.

 Washburn soccer history
• Washburn is 93-120-35 (.449) all-time in its 13th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 60-75-22 (.460). 
• In home matches, the Ichabods are 48-48-17(.514).
• On the road, the Ichabods are 38-64-14 (.385).
• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-8-4 (.474). 

 Up next
•    Washburn will continue its roadtrip at Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 respectively before facing Emporia State on Oct. 30 on the road. Washburn will wrap up the regular season on senior day with Fort Hays State on Nov. 1.
