Box Score HAYS, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods tied Fort Hays State in a non-conference match up on Friday night on the road in a 1-1 double overtime tie. The Ichabods return to play on Sunday at Nebraska-Kearney resuming MIAA play.
Washburn took the early lead in the 11th minute when
Paige Swanson recorded her team-high fourth goal of the season on an assist from
Emily Stauffer when she scored from 18 yards out beating the Tiger goalkeeper to the top right of the net. Washburn led at the break 1-0 after recording two shots to the Tigers' three in the first half.
In the second half, the Tigers tied the score with 3:07 left in regulation when Kelsey Steffens scored her third goal of the season on an assist from CheyAnn Queener scoring from 15 yards out tying the score 1-1 sending the match into overtime.
In overtime each team had three shots combined in the two 10-minute periods as the match finished 1-1 after 110 minutes of action.
Sara Specht had two shots on goal and Washburn had five in the match overall.
Kaitlin Minnich recorded seven saves in net facing 17 shots.
