JOPLIN, Mo. – No. 12 Washburn closed its road weekend with two sweeps on Saturday, Oct. 3 against Missouri Southern and Arkansas-Monticello.
The Ichabods (16-1, 4-1 MIAA) went 3-0 over the weekend while junior outside hitter
Leanna Willer joined Washburn's 1,000 kill club in the first match of the day while racking up 16 kills in each match. She now has 1,021 for her career over three years thus far.
Washburn hosts Emporia State in the second round of the 2015 Turnpike Tussle on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

No. 12 Washburn 3, Missouri Sourthern 0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-12)Washburn looked strong in the first set, rolling to an 8-2 lead in the opening frame. Soon after, leading 9-5, a
Sarah Vicory kill was the first of nine consecutive Ichabod points, making it 18-5. MSSU did climbed back into a single-digit deficit (21-12), but WU took the set, 25-14.
The second set was close early on, but tied 13-all, another Vicory kill was the opening of a 10-1 run as WU pulled away towards a 25-16 win.
In the third, WU opened with seven straight on its way to its second double-digit set win of the game, 25-12.
Willer and Vicory led the team with 16 kills, as Vicory hit .696 with one block and Willer led the Ichabods with three blocks. Defensively Willer was second on the team behind
Alyssa Carney in digs, as they finished with 10 and 12, respectively.
Liz Powell had 29 assists and 10 digs at setter.
No. 12 Washburn 3, Arkansas-Monticello 0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-23)A 9-2 opening burst carried Washburn to a commanding 25-8 set one win. Throughout the set, Washburn had two 6-0 runs and one 5-0 rally.
WU never trailed in the second, though the Cotton Blossoms charged late. WU led 5-1 early on and stretched the lead to six (16-10) midway through. From there, Washburn kept a strong lead until 20-14, but UAM closed it to two (22-20) soon after. Three straight for WU closed it, however, 25-20.
Tied at 10 in the third set, Washburn looked to pull away with a quick 5-1 run, but UAM recovered to tie it at 19-19 and eventually took a 22-21 lead. Still, Washburn pulled off the sweep with a 25-23 win.
Leanna Willer paced the team with her second double-double of the day, finishing with 18 kills and 10 digs.
Taylor Selk had 10 kills and five digs, while hitting .471, and
Sarah Vicory closed the weekend with nine kills.
Alyssa Carney led the defense with 15 digs, while setter
Liz Powell racked up 41 assists.
