Ichabod soccer team wraps up homestand with Bearcats and Griffons

 Opening Notes
•     The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will wrap up a four-game homestand as they will host Missouri Western at 6 p.m. on Friday and Northwest Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m.
•    After the two matches this weekend, Washburn will go on a five-game road trip before wrapping up the regular season on senior day with Fort Hays State on Nov. 1.
•    Washburn (2-6-2, 1-3-0 MIAA) is coming off a 1-0 to Northeastern State last time out.

 'Bod's and Ends
•    The Ichabods have scored seven goals in 10 matches this season after scoring only eight goals in 18 matches last season.
•    The Ichabods are being outshot 128 to 65 this season and 9 to 3 in overtime.
•    Kaitlin Minnich has recorded 45 saves and a .776 save percentage in her first 10 collegiate starts playing all 958 minutes this season in net for the Ichabods.
•    Paige Swanson and Michelle Keleher each have two goals to lead the Ichabods this season. Cadence Bourne, Bailey Wobig, Emily Stauffer and have each scored one goal for the Ichabods this season.
•    Sara Specht leads the Ichabods with two assists while Swanson, Bourne, Kelsi Smith and Morgan El-Attrache each have one assist for Washburn this season.
•    Paige Swanson leads the team with five points this season (2 goals, 1 assist).

 Noting Missouri Western
•    The Griffons are 5-3-1 and 1-2-1 in the MIAA entering the match.
•    Bridget Blessie has three goals to lead the team with a team-high 31 shots.
•    Cassidy Chappell has two goals and Layne Shepherd has two assists.
•    Sarah Lyle has a 0.75 goal against average allowing seven goals with 40 saves and an .851 save percentage.

 Series history with Missouri Western
•    The Ichabods lead the series 11-6-0 and have two of the last three meetings.
•    In Topeka the Ichabods are 6-2-0 against the Griffons.
•    Washburn has outscored the Griffons 39 to 14 in the series.

 Last meeting with Missouri Western
(Oct. 10, 2014) ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team dropped its sixth 1-0 match of the season in a loss at Missouri Western. 
Washburn (0-10-1, 0-6-1 MIAA) and the Griffons were tied at the break as Missouri Western outshot the Ichabods 10 to 6 in the frame.
Bridget Blessie broke the scoreless tie with a goal off a header from a corner kicker from Tara Russell in the 72nd minute for the only goal of the match.
In the match the Ichabods were outshot 18 to 8 by the Griffons in the loss while Missouri Western put nine shots on goal compared to four for Washburn.
Devon Schmitz led the Ichabods with four shots while putting two shots on goal. Bailey Wobig and Whitney Skinner also had shots on goal.
Tori Fuglister faced 18 shots allowing one goal collecting eight saves.
Of Washburn's 10 losses this season, seven have been by one goal. 

 Noting Northwest Missouri
•    The Bearcats are 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-0 in the MIAA.
•    Anna Holden, Elizabeth Lee, Elizabeth Finn each have two goals.
•    Ashley Malloy has a 2.43 goal against average with 67 saves and a .744 goal against average.

 Series history with Northwest Missouri
•    The Ichabods lead the all-time series with the Bearcats 12-5-3.
•    The Bearcats have won the last meeting.
•    The Ichabods won the last meeting in Topeka 3-0.

 Last meeting with Northwest Missouri
(Oct. 12,  2014) MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn soccer team fell 2-0 at Northwest Missouri falling to 0-11-1 on the season.
The Bearcats (6-5-1, 3-4-1 MIAA) broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 32nd minute when Ashley Cole scored her fourth goal of the season. The Bearcats outshot the Ichabods 10 to 3 in the first half and go on to outshoot the Ichabods 16 to 8 in the match overall.
After coming out of the break tied, the Bearcats added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute of Jessica Spradley's third goal of the season off a deflected shot.
Washburn had two shots on goal while the Bearcats recorded nine overall. The Ichabods' Tori Fuglister had six saves in net. Sara Specht had two shots with one on goal and the Ichabods' other shot on goal was recorded by Morgan El-Attrache. Five other Ichabods had one shot on goal.
The teams combined for 34 fouls with 18 coming against Northwest Missouri. The match marked the eighth time the Ichabods had been shutout this season and the fourth-straight match the Ichabods have been held without a goal.

 About head coach Chris Jones
•    Chris Jones is 2-6-2 in his first season at Washburn and is only the second coach in the program's history since 2003.
•    Jones spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Fort Hays State where the Tigers went 20-13-5 coaching 11 all-MIAA picks.
•    Prior to joining the Tigers, he was president and coach of the University of Oklahoma's men's club team.

• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 59-75-21 (.460).
