Washburn men's JV team outruns Braves in opener

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn's Tom Huppe led the Ichabod junior varsity team in its season opener with 32 points in a 102-84 win over the Ottawa JV gold team. The Ichabods return to action at Johnson County on Friday in Overland Park.

The Ichabods trailed by one at the break 50-49 before outscoring the Braves 53 to 34 in the second 20 minutes of play. Huppe was joined in double figures by Blake Mills who scored 18. Emeka Ogbonna scored 14 adding six assists. Tyler Brown had 10 pionts with six rebounds and Tyler Chambers had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Paul Muzzy led the Ichabods with a game high 13 rebounds.

Devin Perez led the Braves with 25 points.

Washburn was 41 of 85 in the game shoothing 48 percent from the field hitting 9 of 28 3-pointers. Ottawa was 31 of 68 htting 15 of 36 3-pointers finishing with 46 percent from the field.

Washburn had a 58 to 28 advantage on the glass including a 24 to 4 advantage on the glass.
