TOPEKA, Kan. -- A 19-0 start by No. 13-ranked Emporia State was too much to overcome as the Washburn Ichabod women's basketball team fell 73-54 to the Emporia Lady Hornets on Saturday in Lee Arena.
Washburn was held scoreless until a basket by
Felisha Gibbs with 14:51 to play in the first half. Gibbs would go on to hit all five of her first half field goal attempts. Washburn finished the first half 7 of 26 from the field while ESU was 17 of 33 overall adding six 3-pointers.
In the second half the Ichabods would cut the Lady Hornets lead to 15 four times but would not get any closer as the ESU took the win.
Gibbs finished with a career-high 13 points going 6 of 7 from the field adding a team-high six rebounds. Ally Nikkel had 12 points and adding a career-high six steals.
ESU was led by Kelly MOten's 18 pionts while Merissa Quick added 17.
The Ichabods finished 38 percent from the field hitting 21 of 55 overall shots while ESU was 26 of 54 overall.
Washburn will host Pittsburg State on Feb. 28 for senior night in Lee Arena starting at 5 p.m.
