EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday in Emporia falling 6-4 and 12-1 in five innings. Washburn returns to action on Tuesday and Wednesday in MIAA play at Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma.
Game 1 - ESU 6, WU 4The Ichabods gave up three runs in the bottom of the first to the Hornets but came back with three of their own in the second inning with Krsiten Bell hit a 2-run double scoring
Jordan Erickson and
Haylee Marsteller. Bell would come around to score on an RBI single by
Marina Quimby. Washburn tied the score in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by
Savannah Moore. The Hornets broke the tie with two runs in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth leading to the 6-4 win.
Taylor Kemp took the loss in the circle allowing four earned runs. Quimby had two hits for Washburn and Bell drove in two.
Game 2 - ESU 12, WU 1 (5 innings)The Hornets scored five runs in the first and four more in the second adding three in the fourth leading to the 12-1 win. Washburn's lone run came in the first as an unearned run as Washburn was limited to seven hits while allowing 15 in the loss. Bell had two hits for Washburn.
Samantha Carson allowed five earned runs dropping to 2-5 on the season.
