TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader with Lindenwood winning game one 6-0 and falling in the nightcap 7-5. Washburn will host Upper Iowa in non-conference action on Monday at the WU Softball Complex at 2 p.m.
Game 1 - Washburn 6, Lindenwood 0Lauren Thimmesch improved to 7-0 on season picking up her third shutout of the season lowering her ERA to 0.53 and drove in a pair of runs with her fourth home run of the season in a 6-0 win over Lindenwood in the opener.
Taylor Zimmerman got the scoring going for the Ichabods with a solo homer in the second inning and
Jordan Erickson hit a 2-run home run in the third inning driving in
Cassidy Merriman who led off the inning with a double.
In the fifth, Washburn scored on an RBI triple by
Megan Stegman which drove in
Taylor Zimmerman.
Thimmesch hit her home run in the sixth inning scoring Merriman who doubled.
Thimmesch struck out four scattering five hits.Â
Merriman finished with three hits and score twice and Zimmerman scored twice collecting two hits. Thimmesch and Erickson each drove in two.
Game 2 - Lindenwood 7, Washburn 5The Ichabods fell behind 6-0 before their rally fell short in the 7-5 loss.
Washburn scored all five runs unearned in the sixth inning as Zimmerman droe in three runs in the inning and
Sierra Kemp drove in another cutting the Lion lead to 6-5.Â
The Lions added a solo run in the seventh and the Ichabods went in order in the seventh securing the split for Lindenwood in the doubleheader.
Zimmerman had two hits and drove in three runs.
Samantha Carson took the loss in the circle for the Ichabods giving up six runs.
