Ichabod softball team splits twinbill with Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader winning game one 15-7 before falling the second game 8-0 in five innings. The Ichabods return to MIAA play on Saturday at Southwest Baptist.

Game 1 - WU 15, UCM 7
The Ichabods scored five runs in each of the first and third innings as they picked up a 15-7 win in the opening game.
Lauren Thimmesch hit the first of her two 3-run home runs in the top of the first helping the Ichabods take the early lead in their first at bat. Taylor Zimmerman added a 2-run home run in the first inning as well as the Ichabods sent nine to the plate as Marina Quimby singled to lead off the game and Cassidy Merriman reached on an error. Both Jordan Erickson and Sierra Kemp reached base after being hit by pitches.
After the Jennies scored five in the bottom of the second, Washburn regained the lead with a sac fly by Zimmerman scoring Haylee Marsteller in the top of the third.
Washburn broke the game open with another five run inning capped with Thimmesch's second 3-run homer. Megan Stegman doubled and Merriman recorded an RBI single before Thimmesch's 12th home run of the season. Zimmerman recorded another sac fly stretching the Ichabod lead to 11-6.
UCM scored a solo run in the fourth inning and the sixth inning. The Ichabods had back to back to back singles Erickson, Marsteller and Kristen Bell to start the sixth inning when Sierra Kemp recorded a sac fly.
The Ichabods wrapped up the scoring with two more in the seventh on a solo home run by Erickson. Quimby led off the inning with a double and then scored on a wild pitch.
Thimmesch improved to 13-5 in the circle striking out four scattering 10 hits and seven runs.

Game 2 - UCM 8, WU 0 (5 innings)
The Jennies (24-10) scored solo runs in the first and third innings and added six more in the second leading to an 8-0 over the Ichabods.
Kristen Bell had both hits for the Ichabods (19-16) who were held in check by Jennies' starter Katie Shockley and her five strikeouts.
The Jennies finished with eight hits in the game. Lindsey Marcus took the loss in the circle for the Ichabods pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs as five of the eight runs against the Ichabods were unearned.
