OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball season came to an end with a pair of losses at the MIAA Tournament. The Ichabods finish the season 27-24.
Opening Game - Pittsburg State 3, Washburn 1The Gorillas were held without a hit by Ichabod starter
Lauren Thimmesch until the top of the fourth inning when the Gorllias scored a pair of unearned runs taking a 2-0 lead.
The Gorillas would go up 3-0 after a solo home run by Jordan Bradshaw.
Washburn finally broke through in the sixth inning on
Cassidy Merriman's 12th home run of the season but the Ichabods would go scoreless the rest of the way falling to the loser bracket game against Central Oklahoma.
Thimmesch took the loss dropping to 20-8 on the season holding the Gorillas to three hits while striking out six with one walk. Emmie Robertson picked up the win improving to 24-8 overall for the Gorillas.
Elimination game - Central Oklahoma 11, Washburn 6The Ichabods scored four runs in their first at bat chasing UCO starter Jessi Walker after 1/3 of an inning.
Marina Quimby led off the game with a walk and then scored on
Lauren Thimmesch's 16 home run of the season and her 43rd of her career. The Ichabods added solo home runs going back to back to back after
Jordan Erickson and
Haylee Marsteller followed Thimmesch's home run with solo home runs of their own. The solo shots were Erickson's 11th of the season and Marsteller's sixth of the season.
Central Oklahoma got two unearned runs in the first inning and added three more unearned runs in the bottom of the second taking a 5-4 lead.
A solo home run by the Bronchos stretched their lead to 6-4 and UCO added another solo home run in the fourth inning going up 7-4. A three-run homer by UCO pushed itslead to 11-4 after five innings.
In the sixth inning, Quimby had a 2-RBI single scoring
Taylor Zimmerman and
Sierra Kemp cutting the margin to the final score of 11-6.
Quimby and Thimmesch each drove in two and Marsteller had two hits.
The Ichabods committed four errors leading to four unearned UCO runs.
Thimmesch struck out two in the loss allowing six earned runs.
