TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's tennis team swept William Jewell on Saturday at the Washburn Tennis Complex opening the season with a 9-0 win over the Cardinals. Washburn will be back in action next Saturday in the annual alumni match starting at 9 a.m.

Jodie Blackim and Ally Burr won their match at No. 1 doubles 8-1 to open the match and Gwen Shepler and Maggie Plum picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles before MaKenna Gonzales and Laura Shkembi wrapped up the doubles matches with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Ichabods continued the winning with six victories in singles action. Blackim won her match at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-1 and Shkembi won her match with a pair of 6-4 sets at No. 2 singles. Plum needed a tiebreaker to win her match at No. 3 singles winning 6-1, 5-7 and 10-4.

At No. 4 singles Shepler won her match 6-2, 6-1 while Jennifer Krause won her match at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-3. At No. 6 singles Burr completed the sweep with an 0-6, 6-1, 10-7 win.
