ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabod soccer team won its second straight match with a 2-1 double overtime win at Lindenwood in their MIAA opener. Washburn will face No. 1 Central Missouri on Sunday in Warrensburg.
Paige Swanson's "golden goal" on an assist from
Kelsi Smith with 94 seconds left was the match-winner in the second overtime giving the Ichabods the 2-1 win over the Lions. It was Swanson's second goal of the season. The overtime win for the Ichabods was the first overtime win for the program since Oct. 28, 2010 when Markie Gallagher scored in the 104th minute against Emporia State for a 1-0 win snapping a streak of 14-straight overtime matches without an overtime win.
Wasbhurn's
Michelle Keleher scored her second goal of the season in the 20th minute to put Washburn up 1-0 on an asset from Sarah Specht. The Lions tied the score in the 40th minute on a goal by Alexis Robbers.
Kaitlin Minnich recorded the win in net for the Ichabods with two saves.
The Ichabods were outshot 10 to 6 in the match. Swanson and
Emily Stauffer each had two shots for the Ichabods.
