Ichabod soccer team plays to double overtime tie with Mustangs

TOPEKA, Kan. -- For only the eighth time in school history the Ichabod soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime tie as Washburn and Southwest Minnesota State played 110 minutes of scoreless play. Washburn returns to action on Sept. 9 at Rockhurst.

At the end of the first period Washburn (0-1-1) led 4 to 2 in shots while outshooting the Mustangs (0-1-1) 5 to 4 in the second half. In both overtimes, Washburn recorded the only shot in the 20 minutes of play.

Kaitlin Minnich recorded four saves in net for the Ichabods as the Ichabods outshot the Mustangs 10 to 6 in the match placing five shots on goal. Presley Wiggins had two shots as did Rachel Kulhanek.

In the 64th minute, Cadence Bourne's penalty kick was stopped by Mustangs' goalkeeper Kristy Leopold diving to her left.

The 0-0 double overtime tie was the first since the MIAA Tournament match with Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 15, 2013 which the Ichabods went on to win 4-3 in penalty kicks. The Ichabods also had a 0-0 two overtime tie with the Lopers earlier that season on Oct. 6 in Topeka.
