TOPEKA, Kan. – Three Ichabods reached double-digits in scoring as Washburn cruised towards a 60-43 win over Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, Jan. 16.
WU (11-6, 7-4 MIAA) shot 42.3 percent from the field in the game and hit seven three-pointers, holding the Bearcats (2-15, 0-11 MIAA) to just one three-pointer on the night and a 17-of-53 effort on field goals.
The Ichabods dropped the rebounding battle for the first time all season, 35-34, but used 13 fast break points and 16 points off turnovers in the runaway victory.
Julie Ravn was 3-of-5 from long range to finish with 15 points while
Erika Lane hit both of her three-pointers and shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from the field to finish with 13 points, adding five assists and six rebounds in the effort.
Felisha Gibbs had four blocks to lead the Ichabod defense while scoring 11 on the offensive end.
Alyxis Bowens had eight points with six rebounds as well.
Washburn built a seven-point lead (15-8) at the end of the first quarter before pulling away for good with a 9-0 run early in the second quarter to take a 26-10 lead. All told, from the 3:35 point of the first quarter to the end of the first half, Washburn outscored the Bearcats, 21-5, to take a 32-13 lead into the break.
NWMSU cut the deficit to 15 (43-28) with a 9-2 run midway through the third quarter but the game never reached single digits again as Washburn pushed it back to 20 (48-28) with a five unanswered to open the fourth quarter and saw its largest lead of the night (24) come at the end of a 6-0 burst around the 5-minute mark in the fourth as
Julie Ravn hit her third three-pointer of the night.
The Ichabods are idle for the next week before welcoming No. 10 Emporia State to Lee Arena on Saturday, Jan. 23. The rivalry game is set to tip at 5 p.m.
